UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 9 — The UN Security Council on Thursday approved another technical rollover of sanctions on Sudan related to the situation in Darfur, allowing additional time for negotiations.
Resolution 2830, adopted unanimously by the 15-member council, extends the sanctions regime, including an arms embargo and targeted measures such as travel bans and asset freezes, until Dec. 11, 2026.
The resolution also extends the mandate of the Panel of Experts assisting the Sudan Sanctions Committee until Jan. 11, 2027.
The Security Council previously approved a one-month technical rollover through Resolution 2828, adopted on Sept. 11.
The United States, the penholder for the Sudan sanctions file, has called for expanding the arms embargo to cover the entire territory of Sudan. Sudan has opposed the proposal.
