KEETMANSHOOP, 05 NOV – A 32-year-old former police officer accused of murdering his girlfriend at Koës last week, was denied bail in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The accused, Paul Rooi made his first appearance before Magistrate Melissa Mungunda, who denied bail out of fear that he might interfere with State witnesses. Mungunda also said police investigations are at an early stage and it is not in the public interest for bail to be granted.
She postponed the case to 29 January 2019 to allow for further police investigations and for the accused to apply for legal aid.
The State was represented by Frederick van der Colf.
The Namibian Police Force’s //Kharas Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa Rooi and Marna Hanse, 20, had a fight in front of a club at the village on Thursday.
“Friends took Hanse home, where her family saw that she was bleeding from the mouth. She was then taken to the clinic where she passed on,” Mubebo said.
Rooi is being held at the Koës police holding cells until his next court appearance.
