WINDHOEK, 22 MAR – Very few crimes were reported on Independence Day, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Inspector-General, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga has said.
He attributed this to the increased visibility of members of the police force.
In an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, the inspector-general said most road accidents and crimes are a result of alcohol and drug abuse, which appeared to have been kept to a minimum.
In Windhoek, however, a Namibia University of Science and Technology student died after he was shot on Wednesday.
NamPol’s Khomas Regional Commander, Commissioner Sylvanus Nghishidimbwa told this news agency 22-year-old Nayman Amakali died on the spot when a taxi he was in was shot at by an unidentified motorist.
Amakali was in a taxi with his brother and another passenger, who were also injured in the shooting.
