WINDHOEK, 12 OCT – The trial date in the case of a former soldier accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in January this year, is expected to be announced in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on 26 October 2018.
Court documents availed to Nampa on Friday showed that Johannes Neuaka made another appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, when his murder case was postponed to 26 October for the fixing of the trial date.
The 39-year-old Neuaka, who was a member of the Namibian Defence Force at the time of the incident, appeared before Windhoek Magistrate Agatha Okamaru.
He remains in custody at the Hosea Kutako International Airport police holding cells until his next court appearance with no option to post bail after the court refused to release him on bail.
Neuaka stands accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, Zya Juliet Rittmann, 25, at her mother’s residence in Katutura’s Michelangelo Street on 21 January 2018.
The victim was shot in the head with a 9mm Makarov pistol.
Neuaka faces a count of murder read with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act of 2003, a charge of being in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license and a charge of negligent discharge of a firearm.
A summary of substantial facts contained in the charge sheet has it that Neuaka fled the scene in his sedan and handed himself over to the police at the Katutura Police Station.
The couple has a three-year-old child.
