ISLAMABAD, March 3 — Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Sunday issued notification of partial restoration of flight operation at Lahore airport in the country’s Punjab province after a halt of about 80 hours.
“Flight operations to and from Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore resume under restricted airspace along with existing NOTAM (Notice to Airmen). Please contact your airline for further details,” the CAA said on twitter.
The airspace was closed on Wednesday, following unrest at the country’s northeastern border with India when Pakistan Air Force jets downed two Indian planes on violation of Line of Control.
Local reports said that the flight operation was resumed at the airport at 6:00 a.m. local time, and all airlines have been notified to reschedule their timing to bring stranded people outside the country back home.
The CAA restored flight operation on Friday, in the country’s capital Islamabad and cities of Peshawar, Quetta and Karachi.
Meanwhile, the authority said that other airports in Punjab, Sindh and northern region of the country will remain closed until further notice.
Pakistan’s official flag carrier Pakistan International Airlines said on its twitter account that more than 400 flights and 25,000 passengers have been affected since the suspension of air traffic by the CAA. – XINHUA
