OTJIWARONGO, 25 SEP – The Eduvision e-learning programme at Otjiwarongo on Monday received a cash donation of N$450 000 from the First Rand Trust Foundation (FRTF).
Launched in August this year, the programme is an initiative of Edugate Academy Private School and the Tsumkwe Senior Secondary School, through which Edugate offers mathematics, physical science, accounting, biology and English to the Grade 10 and Grade 12 learners at Tsumkwe, using e-learning and teaching technology.
Officiating at the event on behalf of government, Acting Otjozondjupa Regional Education Director, Josephine Mutenda explained that for now the e-learning programme between the two schools will be used in preparing the Grade 10 and Grade 12 learners from Tsumkwe for their final examinations.
She commended both Edugate Academy and the FRTF for the donation and their efforts to educate Tsumkwe learners.
The technology is connected to the internet through which audio and visuals of a teacher in a classroom at Edugate are transmitted live to learners in Tsumkwe.
The two schools are both connected to the infrastructure, which includes fibre optic cables, smart boards, television screens, speakers and projector needed in learning exchange.
Receiving the donation, Edugate Academy Private School Principal, Phillip Smit described the programme as effective towards improving the quality of education offered to rural schools in the country.
He commended FRTF for the donation, saying: “Let us all join hands in educating and shaping the future of the Namibian child”.
The donation was handed over by a representative of FRTF, Louw Durand.
Tsumkwe is situated nearly 270 kilometres east of Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region.
