Kavango teachers’ tournament a success

RUNDU, 25 SEP – The inaugural Kavango Annual Teachers Tournament (KATT) concluded at the Rundu Sports Stadium on Sunday, with Ncuncuni circuit winning the soccer category while Kambimba circuit won the netball category.
The tournament kicked off on Saturday, bringing together all 13 circuits in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture from both the Kavango East and Kavango West regions to compete for top honours in soccer, netball and volleyball.
Ncuncuni won the soccer category after beating Mukwe circuit in the finals, while Bunya took the third position.
Kandjimi took the fourth position.
In the netball category, Mukwe came second, Shinyungwe circuit took the third position and Rundu circuit came fourth.
Ncuncuni walked away with N$5 000, a floating trophy and gold medals in the soccer category while Mukwe received N$3 500 and silver medals. Bunya got N$2 250 with bronze medals.
Kandjimi was allocated N$2 250 as well.
For netball, Kambimba circuit won N$1 400 plus a floating trophy and gold medals, while Mukwe received N$1 000 with silver medals.
Shinyungwe circuit took third place with N$700 and bronze medals whereas Rundu circuit in fourth position got N$500.
In the volleyball category, Mukwe and Ndiyona circuits progressed to the finals and the two teams played to a draw. The situation led to the two circuits sharing the first and second prize monies, walking away with N$1 050 each.
Shinyungwe circuit came third walking away with N$700.
Chairperson of the organising committee, Paulus Mutangara said he was satisfied that the tournament was a success as they achieved what they hoped for, bringing all 13 circuits in the two regions together.
“The main purpose of the tournament was to bring teachers from both regions together, which will encourage school learners to love sports as sports bring people together.”
