WINDHOEK, Sept. 6 – The Bank Windhoek Field Hockey Premier League entered its seventh round over the weekend in Windhoek. With only a few rounds to go until the finals next month, WOBSC moved four points clear in the Bank Windhoek Men’s Premier League while, Saints is seven points clear in the Women’s Premier League.
BDO Wanderers coach Andre Stadler, was absent as his team took on WOBSC in tightly contested match. In his absence, his team could not execute their normal style of play.
WOBSC on the other hand had to play hard as they were tied on points with their closest rivals, Saints. As a result of their hard work, WOBSC won the encounter 5-1 with Riaan Kruger netting a couple of goals for his team.
Afterwards, DTS faced Saints in an epic game for both clubs. The score board reflected the game, the conditions surrounding the results and the implications of those results on the log. DTS won the game by the scruff of the neck 1-0. William de Art scored the solitary goal in that game.
UNAM and NUST played each other in a competitive match as none of the teams from two of the biggest educational institutions in the country wanted to lose.
After their defeat to BDO Wanderers, UNAM wanted a better performance from themselves. It was not as easy as they expected as they only won the game 3-1. NUST showed some real character to hold the score and a strong UNAM side at bay.
In the Women’s Premier League, BDO Wanderers took on WOBSC at Windhoek High School’s Davin Astro turf. With the absence of a whole list of players from the side, WOBSC had to field a less experienced team.
It was a game dominated in the midfield, with both teams having minimal chances on the goals. The game ended in a 0-0 draw.
DTS and Saints clashed on as well. The latter showed why they are favorites to win the women’s league this season. Saints won the game 6 – 1. R. Finch from Saints scored twice.
UNAM defeated NUST eight goals without a reply. It was an easy game for UNAM as Lydia Simon scored five goals for her team.
The next games are scheduled to take place this coming weekend on Saturday, 8 and Sunday, 9 September 2017 at Wanderers Sports Fields, Windhoek High School and Aloe Park in Windhoek. – NDN Staffer
