WINDHOEK, 31 OCT – The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation on Wednesday awarded 10 employers for complying with the Employment Services Act.
This was the first time the ministry acknowledged employers who are committed to the implementation of the Act and who actively use the Namibia Integrated Employment Information System (NIEIS) portal to advertise their vacancies.
The companies were awarded to promote and encourage use of the NIEIS. They are Coca Cola Beverages Africa, the Bank of Namibia, Air Namibia, Namibia Breweries Limited, Swakop Uranium, Bank BIC, De Beers Marine Namibia, Namib Mills, Trustco Group and Nedbank.
Speaking at the ceremony, Labour Deputy Minister Tommy Nambahu said unemployment in Namibia is at an unacceptable level.
“It demands concerted and targeted action from Government and the private sector alike to create decent and sustainable employment particularly for the youth and women,” he said.
Nambahu further said the government has emphasised partnerships in the provision of public employment services in order to implement and achieve the objectives of the Employment Services Act and the overall country objectives as stipulated in Vision 2030.
The area of focus for such partnerships are the provision of employment services to both employers and job seekers, skills development in critical areas of development, competency building for local economic development and creation and expansion of decent work that respects workers’ rights and freedom.
