RUNDU, Aug. 8 – Former Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) leader, Peter Kashumali, has categorically denied the circulating rumours in the Kavango East region suggesting that he intends to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming Regional and Local Authorities elections next year. In response to inquiries for comments, Kashumali referred to the allegations as baseless and ordinary.
In a text message, Kashumali, who also holds a senior position within the Ministry of Education, stated, “Allegations indeed… no truth in it, Cde.”
While some have speculated that Kashumali might be following in the footsteps of his former SPYL comrade and personal friend, Poulus Mbangu, who has been performing well as a councillor in the Rundu Rural Constituency and is a member of the National Council, Kashumali firmly denied any such intentions.
“I wouldn’t know why, and I have no message, as I don’t know why they are saying what they are saying, my6 Cde,” Kashumali responded when asked to address the allegations and provide a message for his comrades.
Meanwhile, the Swapo Party is currently engaged in a nationwide mandate renewal process at the district level. In the Kavango East region, Ndonga Linena recently concluded its district conference, during which Elder Council Leader Ben Shikanga was elected as the new District Coordinator, succeeding Maria Kanyetu. Notably, Andreas Nyumbu Kandjeke, a prominent figure in Ndonga Linena who had served as a mobilizer for two terms, lost his influential position to Naimi Daniel. Eugene Hamberera was elected as Treasurer after defeating the incumbent, Augustinus Shifwaku.
The Ndiyona District conference is scheduled for August 19, 2023, at the Ndiyona Tribal Office. The current leadership has confirmed their intent to defend their respective positions. – Namibia Daily News
