Nawatiseb rubbishes Venaani’s remarks on Geingob

WINDHOEK, 31 OCT  – Government has through Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Engel Nawatiseb rubbished remarks made by Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader, McHenry Venaani over the weekend.

PDM had its Central Committee meeting in Oshakati, where Venaani is reported to have said he is angry with President Hage Geingob for failing to lead the country to prosperity.
He further said Geingob pursues the same politics as his predecessor Hifikepunye Pohamba and that the “Harambee administration has failed on key tests of economic fundamentals”.

“While acknowledging the constitutional right of every Namibian citizen to express themselves on any issue of their liking and choice, the Government of the Republic of Namibia cannot fold its hands and watch individuals such as honourable Venaani, who are supposed to know better, advancing opportunistic, irresponsible, ahistorical and unfactual statements just for the purpose of scoring cheap political points,” Nawatiseb said during a media briefing here on Tuesday.

The deputy minister said attaining prosperity is a work in progress which can only be solved by reversing the inherited inequalities facing Namibian society and which are deeply rooted in remnants of the apartheid colonial administration.

“The desired ideal in which workers are happy, employers are profitable and the country is at peace is a Namibian vision to which Government is irreversibly committed.”
Nawatiseb further said Venaani ought to understand that there is global economic meltdown, to which Namibia is not immune.

“Recession is recession irrespective of who is in power.”
He added that the government should instead be applauded for having consolidated its fiscal and monetary policies in line with good governance principles, accountability and prudent management of scare resources.
