KEETMANSHOOP, 08 JUN – Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) employees at Keetmanshoop joined the rest of their colleagues at various NBC offices in the country in a peaceful demonstration over an unpaid salary increment.
Six members of the //Kharas Region NBC staff took part in the protest at the NBC offices here on Thursday, with the demonstration aiming to show they “were full-force in support of their fellow colleagues nationwide”.
Shop steward at the Keetmanshoop office, Debora Dirkse told Nampa the demonstration is over an outstanding 6 per cent increment that has not been paid since 01 April 2017. They also have not received an increment in the 2017/18 financial year, she said.
Dirkse said NBC also has to pay them according to their work experience and qualifications and put them in the right positions.
“There might be someone that worked for NBC for years and over the years that person has improved their qualification and with the years of experience, that person’s salary must increase to equal the qualification and experience,” she said.
Another issue that Dirkse raised was that NBC delayed making payments to third parties, such as its employee pension funds and loans.
“We see on our payslip that NBC deducts pension money and the payments to loans, but the money does not go to the third party,” Dirkse stressed.
