RUNDU, 01 SEP – A 30-year-old man was on Friday fatally stabbed on his neck at a local take-away in Rundu.
According to the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Acting Crime Investigations Coordinator in the Kavango East Region, Deputy Chief Inspector Ewald Kavara upon inquiry on Saturday, the incident allegedly happened at a gambling house at around 11h00.
It is alleged that the deceased grabbed a pack of cigarettes from the suspect and ran towards the gambling house, where he caught a taxi in an attempt to run away with the pack of cigarettes but the owner of the cigarettes caught up with him.
Kavara said while the deceased was trying to get in a taxi, the suspect opened the door of the vehicle in an attempt to stop the taxi from moving, however, the deceased pulled out a knife and stabbed the suspect on his arm before the suspect overpowered him, taking the knife from him and stabbing him in the neck.
The deceased was then rushed to the Rundu State Hospital, where he succumbed to his stab wounds upon arrival.
A case of murder has been registered with NamPol and the suspect, who has been arrested, is expected to appear in court on Monday.
