HARARE, Jan. 4 — Zimbabwean police, together with the army, have arrested a suspected serial murderer who allegedly killed at least eight people in Guruve District, Mashonaland Central Province, a police statement said late Saturday.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of murder, attempted murder and rape suspect Anymore Zvitsva, 32, in Guruve this afternoon on Jan. 3, 2026,” Zimbabwean Police Spokesperson Paul Nyathi said in the statement.
“The suspect was shot in the left leg by a joint team from the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe National Army while hiding in a garden. He is now receiving medical attention at a local hospital,” he added.
He applauded the community in rural Guruve and all Zimbabweans for the support rendered during the manhunt for the suspect and said more details on the charges to be leveled against him and his court appearance will be made available later.
The suspect allegedly murdered five relatives before he was linked to the murders of at least three other people in December last year.
He remained elusive to law enforcement agents, prompting the police to seek the assistance of the army. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
