Katima Mulilo, Aug. 31 -– Five people, four of whom are believed to be tourists, were killed when a small aircraft crashed at Impalila Island shortly after take-off, killing all who were on board.
An aviation accident investigator in the Ministry of Works and Transport confirmed the accident and said the aircraft had four tourists and a female pilot when it crashed.
Zambezi police spokesperson Inspector Kisco Sitali also confirmed the accident, saying it happened around 12h00 in the afternoon.
T has not yet been established what caused the fatal crash, but a source at Impalila island told Namibia Daily News that the five bodies were transported to Katima state mortuary since the mortuary on the island can only accommodate three bodies.
Investigations into the accident are continuing.
