Tjauira General Investment tourney set for Friday

WINDHOEK, 20 JUL  – The Tjauira General Investment football and netball tournament is set to begin at the Khomasdal Stadium in the capital on Friday.
Tjipenandjambi Katjiuanjo, one of the knock-out competition’s organisers, told Nampa in an interview on Thursday the tournament attracted 25 clubs.
Katjiuanjo said 14 teams were registered for football, while the remaining 11 teams would take part in the netball.
In the football tournament, Eleven Fighters will lock horns with Renamo Bucks in the first game, which will be followed by Okozonduzu-based Orlando Pirates taking on Otjinoko, with Okatjasorui Eleven confronting Ozombovire thereafter.
Fine Young Stars and Dynamos will play the last match on Friday.
The Saturday matches will see Truck Team taking on Okauua Rovers in the first match, to be followed by an encounter between Ekuenje and Orunarongue, while Super Stars will face Khomas NamPol.
The netball matches will start on Saturday and will see Okatjosorui taking on Fine Young Stars before Okauua take on Dynamos.
The Truck Team ladies will face their counterparts from Ekuenje Netball Club, while Ozombovire will lock horns with Super Stars and Eleven Fighters face Renamo Bucks.
The netball team from Orunarongue will play the winner between Okatjasorui and Fine Young Stars.
The organisers urged supporters to come in numbers as the competition is aimed at promoting the development of sport in the country.
“As you can see in the current Namibia national football and netball teams, most national players played in these types of tournaments,” said Katjiuanjo.
He went on to say the tournament will only allow five premier league players to motivate upcoming stars and the total prize money is N.dollars 30 000.
The netball category is allocated N.dollars 10 000 while football gets N.dollars 20 000.
The netball winner will take home N.dollars 5 000 and the runners-up, N.dollars 2 500.
Each semi-final loser will take home N.dollars 1 250.
For football, the winning team will pocket N.dollars 10 000.
The runners-up will get N.dollars 5 000, while the semi-final losers will each pocket N.dollars 2 500.
