WINDHOEK, 11 OCT (NAMPA) – Patrick Kauta on Tuesday resigned as the board chairperson of the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) in a letter addressed to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Tom Alweendo.
His resignation comes two years after his appointment as chairperson of the board.
“I have served Namcor for the last two years to the best of my ability and the highest integrity with the interest of Namcor at heart at all times,” he wrote.
Kauta added that he does not subject himself to the contravention of Section 17 of the Anti-Corruption Act, which is why he was resigning with immediate effect.
This follows a commissioning of an investigation into allegations of impropriety and untoward conduct by the management team by the board under Kauta’s leadership.
The investigation, which according to Kauta contained significant recommendations on the next steps to be taken in the process, was conducted by Deloitte and presented to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
