REHOBOTH, 11 NOV – Young Brazilians announced their arrival in the Namibia Premier League (NPL) with a 1-0 victory over coastal giants Blue Waters, courtesy of a Christinus ‘China’ Windstaan goal on Saturday in Karasburg.
The Dakaza Boys, as they are referred to by their ardent supporters, held Omeya, as Blue Waters are also known, to a goalless first half.
Omeya were unable to cope with the sweltering southern sun and Young Brazilians used this element to their advantage to search for their maiden NPL goal that eventually came in the 64th minute, via a penalty after Brian Bantam was fouled in the box and Windstaan coolly slot it past the Blue Waters goalkeeper.
The red and white outfit held on for their first ever points in their maiden campaign.
Young Brazilians coach, Tolla Julius told Nampa on Saturday they were checking out Blue Waters’ strategy in the first half to find out how they could counter their tactics.
“We allowed them to bring out their strategy and saw that they relied mostly on the aerial ball. In the second half, we decided to keep the ball on the ground and play our normal passing game,” said Julius.
He said the fans also played a big role in spurring on the boys against their more fancied opponents.
“I am grateful for our twelfth men that pushed the boys to play hard. Thanks to everyone that came to support us,” he said.
Julius said the team will work on some issues they picked up in the Blue Waters match and correct it.
In other matches played on Saturday, returning Julinho Sporting lost their opening fixture 1-0 against Black Africa in Rundu, while rookies, Okahandja United held former NPL champions Tigers Football Club to a 1-all draw at Okahandja’s Nau Aib Stadium.
