REHOBOTH, 12 AUG – The North West First Division is in its home stretch with teams in both Pool A and B determined to win their respective Pools and play in a play-off match for Namibia Premier League (NPL) promotion.
In Group A on Saturday at Etoshapoort Stadium in Outjo, Golden Bees defeated Oshikuku Youngsters 1-0, while at the Mushibandeka Stadium in Ongwediva, Ongwediva City beat Eleven Warriors 2-0.
In other Group A matches, Military School Okahandja defeated Onambula United 3-0.
In Group B, Touch & Go drew 1-1 with African Motto, while African Lions defeated University of Namibia (UNAM) Ogongo 3-0 at Etoshapoort Stadium.
In Group A, in matches played on Sunday, Military School Okahandja and Oshikuku Young Stars played to a goalless draw at Nau-Aib Stadium in Okahandja, while Golden Bees defeated Onambula United 2-1 at Etoshapoort Stadium.
In Group B, Touch & Go and UNAM Ogongo drew 1-1 at Otavi’s |Norab Stadium, while at Etoshapoort Stadium, African Lions lost 2-1 against African Motto.
The fight to be crowned as Group A winners goes to the wire, with log leaders Military School and second-placed Golden Bees tied on 17 points after 9 matches, with Golden Bees having an inferior goal difference. The two teams will meet in the final fixture next weekend.
Military School Okahandja only needs a draw to win the group, while a victory for Golden Bees will secure them the group winner spot.
Relegation is between sixth-placed Onambula United (4 points) and fifth-placed Ongwediva City (8 points). Both teams have played 8 matches.
Third place is occupied by Eleven Warriors with 11 points after 8 matches, while Oshikuku Youngsters are in fourth place.
In Group B, log leaders African Motto (13 points) need just a draw against second placed UNAM Ogongo (10 points) in the last match.
The relegation battle is wide open in Group B as only African Motto is safe from relegation.
Touch & Go is placed third with 9 points, followed by KK Palace in fourth also with 9 points but an inferior goal difference.
African Motto occupies the last spot coming in at fifth with 7 points.
So far the NWFD is the only stream with matches remaining, while North East First Division is due to play the play-off matches between Pool A winners, Ntunguru Football Club and Pool B winners Julinho Sporting for NPL promotion.
Young Brazilians from Karasburg was promoted to the NPL after beating Blue Boys from Swakopmund in the Southern Stream First Division play-off matches last month.
