Katima Mulilo, 29 July – Voting is still ongoing in the Zambezi Region as civil servants choose to or not to go on strike, that could bring most sectors of the economy to a halt. All voting stations are full to capacity. Most of the workers who NDN spoke to did not want to be identified for fear of victimisation, sad they have opted for strike action despite threats from ministers that the no work no pay rule will apply. “We can’t afford anything as prices of commodities have increased over the years where our salaries have remained the same , previously one would do groceries for household for at least N$3000, while that figure has almost doubled, everything is expensive, our leaders must do what is right and effect the salary increase if not we will bring all sectors to a standstill,” said a civil servant employed by the directorate of rural water supply in the Zambezi Region.
