Oshakati, Aug. 1 – Two people died after two vehicles they were travelling with were involved in an accident on the Oshikuku-Okalongo road on Saturday.
Deputy Commissioner Moses Simaho confirmed the accident that happened at around 21h00 at Onandjaba settlement in Okalongo Constituency and said police in the Omusati region are investigating a case of culpable homicide and reckless and or negligent driving.
Simaho said Monika Kamana Kaitungwa (45) of Onembaba village was driving from Oshikuku to Okalongo, while Emvula Fanuel (35) of Omutundungu village was following her in Toyota pick-up.
Fanuel allegedly tried to overtake the vehicle in front and in the process side-swiped resulting in Kaitungwa losing control of her vehicle which veered off the road and overturned. One of the passengers in the vehicle died at the scene while the other passenger escaped injury.
The pick-up was also overturned and one passenger died at the scene while the other two were thrown out of the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
The deceased have not been identified and their next of kin have not yet been informed.
Police Investigations into the accident are continuing.
