SWAKOPMUND, Aug. 16 – The three accused in a recent gruesome home invasion on two pensioners in Swakopmund’s Vineta suburb earlier this month face a double murder charge, after the second victim, Mr Siegfried Paul Strzelecki (82), succumbed to his injuries last Thursday. His wife, Sieglinde Strzelecki (79) was murdered during the gruesome ordeal.
A fortnight ago, two of the accused entered the victims’ home with a duplicate key, early in the morning. They allegedly overpowered Mrs Strzelecki, strangling her and hitting her head several times against a wall. Mr Strzelecki came out from another room in the house to see what was happening, and was also overpowered by the thugs. He was assaulted and threatened with knifes as the suspects demanding money.
He was allegedly tied up while the suspects tried to open a safe in the bedroom. However they did not succeed, as Mr Strzelecki changed the lock of the safe after the original key went missing before the invasion.
One of the suspects, Daniel Stefanus Nghilifa (26) was later on identified by Mr Strzelecki. Nghilifa, Jerobiam Simon Shidute (23) and Fabianus Lazarus (24) did renovations on the elderly couple’s home a while back. The trio remains in custody and will reappear in the Swakopmund Magistrates Court on 26 September after bail was denied.- Marshallino Beukes
