REHOBOTH, 05 AUG – A 29-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a farmhouse near Stampriet on Saturday.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa that the incident occurred around 10h00 at Farm San Maryn, approximately 30 kilometres east of Stampriet.
“It is alleged that the suspect broke into the residence of a 54-year-old woman by breaking the front door with an unknown object,” Clay said.
He allegedly threatened the woman with a knife when she confronted him and demanded money from her. He then followed the woman to her room where they wrestled over a firearm she kept under her pillow.
“He managed to overpower the victim and cut her thumb with the knife. He then fled the scene on foot with the pistol, N$850 in cash and cigarettes, but was later tracked down and apprehended by a joint team of police officers and farmers,” Clay said.
All items were recovered.
Clay commended the officers and farmers for working together to apprehending the suspect.
