Grootfontein, January 10 — Police in the Otjozondjupa Region have launched an inquest following the death of a Namibian Defence Force soldier who was found dead at the Grootfontein Military Base on Saturday morning.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Eben Kenaruzo, 57, was discovered at around 05:40 in the shower area of the Male Barracks. He was found in a seated position with his back resting against a wall.
Kenaruzo, a Staff Sergeant attached to the Logistics division, was reportedly wearing only his undergarments at the time of discovery. A cup containing a small amount of liquid believed to be water was found next to him.
Police said there were no visible injuries on the body, and no known medical conditions have been reported at this stage. The cause of death remains unknown.
The body was transported to the Grootfontein State Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed, and police investigations are continuing.
Otjozondjupa Regional Police spokesperson Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha confirmed the incident.
