WINDHOEK, Feb. 23 – Standard Bank employees recently hit the streets of Windhoek today by shaking-a-can in a bid to collect donations as part of the Writers of Hope initiative.
The Writers of Hope initiative which was launched in February 2017, aids various schools by collecting and donating much needed stationary to them. It is the brainchild of Hugs 4 Christ and the Bankers Association of Namibia (BAN).
“At Standard Bank we believe that receiving quality education is the right of every child and remains one of the key pillars to building a developed nation. As such, we are committed to supporting endeavours that speak to this belief. We are proud to be one of the Banks who are backing this initiative and our Blue Bankers were ready to show their support,” said Standard Bank’s Employee Wellness Consultant, Cicile Fouche.
As part of BAN, Standard Bank together with other financial institutions collected stationary at various traffic lights around Windhoek on Thursday, 22 February.
“Our Bankers had collection tins for those who may want to make a donation towards the cause and the funds will in turn be used to purchase the stationary needed. Alternatively, people can also drop off their donations at our various branches,” she explained.
With many children often leaving school because they do not have the resources they need, the name Writers of Hope was chosen to show children that they can write their own story of hope by staying in school. The name also represents the physical act of writing and how an education can carry the learners a long way.
“Namibian children have the potential to excel academically and make their mark on the world as we have seen countless times, however part of that begins with us supporting them and ensuring that they stay in school. This is one of the ways we can all show our support, no matter how minute it may seem. I urge everyone to rally behind this cause and give what they can,” she concluded. – NDN Staffer
