WINDHOEK, FEB 23 — Around 120 delegates from across Southern Africa will converge in Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek for the 52nd Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) meetings from Feb. 25 to 28, NamPower said Friday.
Namibia’s power utility, NamPower Friday told Xinhua that 12 member countries represented by their respective electric power utilities organized through the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will be present.
The power utility said that the three-day SAPP forum is a gathering of electricity utilities in Southern Africa, where they will deliberate on important issues concerning power planning, operations and development within the region.
The conference will bring together experts and senior officials from power utility corporations and electrical appliance companies from SADC.
The previous meeting, the 51st SAPP conference took place in Tanzania last year and deliberations on strategies to have sustainable power production and supply at reasonable costs, benefiting all, especially rural communities, were covered.
Currently Namibia imports the bulk of its power from the SAPP with the bigger chunk coming from Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority and South Africa’s Eskom. – XINHUA
