Walvis Bay, 23 December 2024 – Air Marshal Martin Kambulu Pinehas, Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF), conferred the rank of Rear Admiral to Sacheus Randy !Gonteb and appointed him as the Navy Commander. The appointment became effective today, 23 December.
Rear Admiral !Gonteb takes over from Rear Admiral Alweendo Paulus Amungulu, whose tenure has been marked by exceptional service and notable advancements within the Namibian Navy. According to Pinehas, during his time as Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Amungulu played a pivotal role in strengthening Namibia’s maritime defenses and fostering a robust naval force.
Speaking at the Change of Command Parade in Walvis Bay, Air Marshal Pinehas commended Rear Admiral Amungulu for his unwavering dedication and commitment.
“He leaves behind a Navy that is stronger, more capable, and ready to meet the challenges of the future,” said the Chief of Defence Force, reflecting on the accomplishments under the outgoing commander’s leadership.
The Air Marshal also lauded Rear Admiral !Gonteb, highlighting his extensive experience and strategic vision as assets to the Navy’s continued growth and operational success.
“Rear Admiral !Gonteb brings extensive experience and a vision to strengthen Namibia’s maritime security and advance the Navy’s operational excellence,” remarked Air Marshal Pinehas, expressing confidence in the new commander’s ability to lead the Navy into a new era.
In his acceptance speech, Rear Admiral !Gonteb pledged to uphold the legacy of his predecessor while prioritizing innovation, modernization, and the welfare of the Navy’s personnel.
“I will embrace innovation, adopt new technologies, and ensure that our sailors are equipped with the training and resources they need to succeed,” said the newly appointed commander. He emphasized the importance of continuous improvement to meet evolving challenges in maritime security.
