LÜDERITZ, November 24 – The Namibian government has successfully acquired a 24% equity stake in Hyphen Hydrogen Energy, marking a significant milestone in the country’s green hydrogen ambitions. The large-scale green hydrogen project, based in the //Kharas Region near Lüderitz, is set to position Namibia as a global leader in renewable energy innovation.
Jona Musheko, spokesperson for the Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme, confirmed that the agreement, initially signed months ago, is now fully operational. Musheko emphasized that the acquisition did not involve public funds but was financed through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Namibia One Fund.
“This initiative was made possible through the SDG Namibia One Fund, supported by grants and managed by fund managers who specifically focus on financing Namibia’s green hydrogen projects. This ensures the government is not burdened financially while still securing equity in a transformative project,” Musheko explained.
He further stated that the Hyphen Hydrogen Energy project represents Namibia’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions while boosting the country’s economic development.
The 24% stake underscores Namibia’s strategic role in pioneering green hydrogen development globally, contributing to both energy transition efforts and sustainable growth.
