WINDHOEK, 05 JUL – Members of the Namibian Police Force should serve the public with diligence and pride, NamPol Inspector-General, Lieutenant-General Sebastian Ndeitunga said on Wednesday.
He was addressing members of the force on service delivery, discipline and crime in Windhoek.
Ndeitunga said crimes such as housebreaking, common assault, gender-based violence, stock theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, drug trafficking and robbery continue to haunt the country and especially, the Khomas Region.
“It is disturbing that members of the public continue to air their complaints on poor service delivery by members of the force, especially in Khomas. This shows there is a lack of police visibility in the region, which contributes to the high number of criminal activities,” he said.
The inspector-general said it is also disturbing to hear of members of the police siding with criminals and informing them of police operations beforehand as this makes it difficult to combat crime.
Ndeitunga reminded the officers of their national duty to deliver quality services and uphold the law as members of the force.
“The Namibian Police hold a society and civilisation together. We should always regard ourselves as a source of moral strength for our society and confidence and happiness for all individuals who seek to live a safe and secure life,” he added.
