Windhoek, Sept.8 — Capricorn-on-Main, the new 13-storey landmark building on the corner of Independence Avenue and Kasino Street in Windhoek’s Central Business District (CBD), has received its compliance certification to become operational since early September 2026.
The development marks an important milestone for Bank Windhoek, Capricorn Group, the construction sector and the continued renewal of the capital city’s historic commercial heart.
As one of the most visible private-sector investments in the CBD in recent years, Capricorn-onMain has already made a meaningful contribution to Namibia’s construction value chain.With a significant investment into the Namibian economy, the building project created direct employment opportunities for more than 200 people during construction.
It supported a wider network of local contractors, suppliers and service providers.With approximately 95% of the project budget spent through local trades and vendors, the development reflects a deliberate commitment to Namibian participation, skills retention and economic activity at a time when the construction sector continues to play a vital role in employment creation and national development.
Beyond its physical presence, Capricorn-on-Main represents renewed confidence in Windhoek’s city centre. By choosing to invest in the heart of the CBD, Bank Windhoek and Capricorn Group are reaffirming their long-standing connection to Independence Avenue and Kasino Street, where Bank Windhoek’s Main Branch has served customers for more than four
decades.
The building is expected to bring increased daily activity, stronger foot traffic and renewed vibrancy to the area as employees, customers, service providers and visitors move through the precinct.Capricorn-on-Main will accommodate approximately 350 employees and bring several key teams closer together in a modern, connected workplace designed for collaboration, innovation and improved service delivery.
The building includes purpose-designed customer facilities, state-of-the-art boardrooms, flexible workspaces, meeting areas, a canteen, a coffee bar andconvenient retail services, all aimed at creating a more efficient, engaging and inclusive working environment.
The relocation of the Bank Windhoek Main Branch Business Banking customers services to the new premises will also enhance the customer experience by offering a modern banking environment in the same trusted city-centre location.
This reinforces the Bank’s commitment to remaining accessible to customers while contributing to the broader economic and social renewal of Windhoek’s CBD. The development is also aligned with a broader vision of creating positive change beyond the workplace.
