SWAKOPMUND, December 17 — Organizers of the 2024 Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament have confirmed that preparations are complete for the third edition of this highly anticipated social volleyball event, set to take place on December 21 at Mole Beach in Swakopmund.
Dave Hammond of Connect People to People (CPTP), the event’s co-organizer, announced that the tournament has moved to the coast for the first time, following its debut in Ongwediva in 2022 and Oshakati in 2023.
“This year, we are bringing the tournament to Swakopmund, where many people gather for the December holidays. It’s an ideal location to host a fun and engaging event for both locals and visitors,” Hammond said.
The six-a-side tournament will feature teams of eight players, with a requirement for at least two women to be on the court at all times. Between 12 and 24 teams are expected to participate in the event, which Hammond described as a social gathering primarily aimed at amateur players and corporate teams looking to unwind and have fun as the year draws to a close.
“We don’t anticipate participation from Namibia Volleyball Federation-registered players because this is meant for families, friends, and corporate groups who just want to enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. It’s all about having fun and fostering connections,” he explained.
The tournament’s entry fee is N$800 per team, with limited spots available for a maximum of 24 teams. Prizes worth up to N$12,000 are up for grabs.
Gernot de Klerk, Nedbank Namibia’s Executive Head of Marketing and Communications, expressed excitement about supporting the tournament, emphasizing its alignment with the bank’s values.
“Nedbank Namibia is proud to partner with CPTP for this event, which promotes social cohesion, community empowerment, and the growth of sports. This tournament is more than just a competition—it’s about bringing people together, strengthening bonds, and celebrating the vibrant spirit of volleyball,” said De Klerk.
He also highlighted the broader scope of Nedbank’s community initiatives, such as the Outdoor Activity Hub in Swakopmund. Established in partnership with CPTP, the hub offers a variety of festive activities, including skating, mini-golf, axe throwing, a rope tree course, jumping castles, a kiddies’ train, a mechanical bull, and an escape room.
“I encourage sports enthusiasts, families, friends, and businesses to join us for this memorable event, whether as players or spectators. Let’s come together to make this edition of the Volley 1st Tournament unforgettable,” De Klerk added.
The Outdoor Activity Hub will be located at the Tennis Court Parking area in Swakopmund and will be operational throughout the festive season, further enhancing the holiday experience for locals and visitors alike.
