ONGWEDIVA, 11 APR – The Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) Northern Branch supports the continued existence of Air Namibia, and called on Government to direct its officials to travel per the national airline.
Speaking to Nampa on Tuesday, NCCI Northern Branch Chairperson Tomas Iindji said his branch executive is proud that Namibia has her own airline which is flying the national flag domestically, regionally and internationally.
“Namibia, as a country, is known in most parts of the world through the lens of Air Namibia,” Iindji narrated, adding that the NCCI Northern Branch is proud that the airline offers world class and award winning services on internationally-recognised platforms.
According to Iindji, Air Namibia remains one of the few African airlines granted rights to fly in the European space and to the United States of America through partner airlines.
He said it is wrong when Government agencies, employees and officials use other airlines.
“There should be a directive that all employees of the government use Air Namibia as the first preferred choice whenever they travel,” Iindji demanded.
He further stated that Air Namibia has to continue existing to contribute to tourism development, earning much needed foreign currency reserves and to ensure that the country remains linked to the rest of the world.
Iindji suggested that Air Namibia management, through its respective offices, strengthen the operations of the airline and become cost efficient to improve competitiveness in the face of other airlines which may be heading to Namibia in the future.
