WINDHOEK, March 17 — Namibian sprint sensation Christine Mboma on Wednesday set a new national senior record of 11.15 seconds in the women’s 100m in a challenger event of the World Athletics Continental Tour in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
Mboma, who in 2021 became the first female recipient of BBC’s African Sports Personality of the Year, was followed home by compatriot Beatrice Masilingi in 11.24 seconds. Masilingi had set Namibia’s previous national record with a time of 11.20 seconds last year at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Kenya.
The two 18-year-old practice partners have secured spots in the women’s 100m for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, African Championships in Mauritius, and World Championships in Eugene, the United States. (Xinhua)
