WINDHOEK, 10 MAY – Namibia is the new Cosassa Athletics champion after collecting 67 medals in Francistown, Botswana.
Team Namibia won 26 gold, 21 silver and 20 bronze during the three-day Confederation of Southern African Schools Sports Associations (Cosassa) event which ended Wednesday.
Zimbabwe, who won the championships for two years in a row, finished second with 73 medals (24 gold; 32 silver and 17 bronze).
Botswana finished third with 79 medals (20 gold; 24 silver and 35 bronze), while Zambia finished fourth with 17 medals (seven gold; two silver and eight bronze).
Lesotho ended last with four gold; two silver and two bronze medals at the end of 19th edition of the competition.
Namibia’s Chriseline Klein broke the Cosassa 80 metre (m) hurdles record and was crowned Best Under-15 athlete and Junior Victrix Ludorum.
Carla Schultz also set a new Cosassa record in the high jump with her jump of 1.63m.
Nathalie Louw and Ivan-Danny Geldenhuys were recognised as the best girl and boy in the U17 category, while Geldenhuys also walked away with the Senior Victor Ludorum award.
