SWAKOPMUND, July 15 – After three years of experiencing one of the brutal killer viruses in human history, Namibia has removed all restrictions imposed on account of COVID-19, although compliance with public health and social measures is still encouraged.
Namibia traversed a difficult 26 months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. And ever since the onset of the pandemic in 2019, Namibia has recorded more than 160 000 infections and 4 068 coronavirus-related deaths.
During the 45th Covid-19 update President Hage Geingob said given the current epidemiological situation, the daily Covid-19 updates will be discontinued from Friday, July 15.
“This decision in no way means that the Covid 19 pandemic is over,” he said.
The public will be briefed weekly on Thursdays at the Government Information Centre by the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
“The trajectory of Covid-19 in Namibia and elsewhere in the world is changing; hence, Namibia’s approach to combating Covid-19 continues to focus on saving lives, restoring livelihoods and contributing to the recovery of the economy,” said the Minister of Health and Social Services, Kalumbi Shangula.
“We are now in the phase of building back our socio-economic infrastructure from the untold devastation of Covid-19.” the President highlighted.
