Matengu appointed as UNAM’s new vice chancellor

WINDHOEK, 29 JUN – The University of Namibia (UNAM) has appointed Associate Professor Kenneth Matengu as its third vice chancellor.
His appointment is effective from 01 August 2018 and is set for a period of six years, a statement issued Friday said.
Matengu, currently UNAM’s Pro-Vice Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Development, succeeds Professor Lazarus Hangula.
“Associate Professor Matengu’s appointment follows a rigorous and extensive recruitment process, as required by the university statutes and the university’s rules for the appointment of the vice chancellor,” the statement said.
The 40-year-old associate professor is a UNAM alumnus who joined the university as a student in 1996. He was hired as student research intern in the Multidisciplinary Research Centre in his second year and has served the university in various capacities since.
He is also an Honorary Visiting Professor at Cardiff University in Wales.
Hangula served as vice chancellor for 14 years.
