REHOBOTH, 09 APR – The Kunene Football League teams instituted a vote of no confidence in their chairperson, Petrus Tjiveze on Saturday, citing lack of leadership and lack of accountability with regards to league finances.
League vice chairperson Bensley Hanabeb on Sunday confirmed the vote of no confidence and said the members of the league felt Tjiveze was no longer deemed fit to hold the position.
“We held our annual general meeting on Saturday in Kamanjab and the teams decided to vote against him,” he said.
Hanabeb said of the league’s 12 teams, only 11 were present. Gariseb Orlando Pirates were absent.
“Eleven votes were in favour of the vote of no confidence,” he said.
Hanabeb said members decided that he should act until the end of the month, when a new chairperson is elected.
Daniel Geiseb of Robber Chanties Football Club on Sunday said Tjiveze failed to provide financial reports for the more than four years that he served as chairperson.
“Tjiveze has failed the region big time. Football-wise our region is marginalised because the chairperson does not seem to care. How can we be led by someone who fails to give reports?” Geiseb asked.
He said they will meet in Kamanjab in two weeks’ time to elect a new interim committee.
Attempts to get comment from Tjiveze proved futile as his mobile went unanswered and he also did not respond to text messages sent to him.
