WINDHOEK, 26 APR – Namibian workers will converge in Khorixas town in the Kunene Region on 01 May 2018 to commemorate International Workers’ Day under the theme ‘Namibian workers and employers unite for economic upliftment’.
The town will host the commemoration for the first time.
Namibia Public Workers Union General Secretary, Petrus Nevonga said during a media conference here on Thursday the theme was chosen with recognition of the current economic situation in the country.
“The economy needs labour workers, machinery and capital to grow. Hence, the theme is to remind all workers and employers to work together to improve the economy,” he explained.
Workers and employers work hand in hand to ensure the production of products and delivery of services, said Nevonga.
He then called upon all Namibian workers and employers to attend this event in Khorixas to value and celebrate their efforts towards the upliftment of the country’s economy.
The day has been commemorated on 01 May since the 19th century to highlight the struggles and gains made by workers through labour movements.
