WINDHOEK, 26 APR – The Exclusive Health and Wellness Gym was on Thursday evicted from City Junction building for rental debts exceeding N.dollars 500 000.
The local fitness centre in Windhoek owned by local businessman, Tonata Shiimi, has been operating from the building on the corner of John Meinert Street and Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue, since August 2016.
Upon enquiry Tuesday, City Junction Investments CC’s lawyer, Phillip Shilongo confirmed to Nampa that legal action is being taken against the fitness centre over the outstanding fees.
“We have instituted legal actions against the gym for rental arrears exceeding N.dollars 500 000, and gotten judgement accordingly,” he said.
Shilongo, who could not disclose the monthly payment, said the eviction and execution have taken place as per the law.
Without giving much detail, Shiimi confirmed to this agency that they were forced to close down one of their branches due to increased operational expenses which outweighed revenue by almost 30 per cent.
“Revenue streams have reduced significantly as more and more members are defaulting on their gym payments for things which they consider more urgent pressing matters,” he said Wednesday.
Shiimi also pointed out that Namibia is experiencing an economic downturn which has affected many businesses, and theirs is no exception.
He further explained that the stakeholders and members of the gym have been informed of the situation, and have been requested to make use of the other two branches located at Westlane Shopping Centre in Pioneers Park and another in the Gecko building along Mandume Ndemufayo Avenue.
