REHOBOTH, 29 JUN – Log leaders and champions-elect in the Khomas Second Division, Eleven Champions will end their season with a top of the table clash against Swallows Football Academy on Sunday at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek.
Eleven Champions are sitting on top with 50 points from 25 games played so far and are five points ahead of Swallows in second place with 54 points.
A win for Swallows will not be enough to overtake Eleven Champions, although Afrika Rassap in third and also with 54 points and only 24 games played can catch up with them on points, but will only win if they achieve the incredulous task of scoring over 40 goals in their remaining two matches.
Eleven Champions coach, Adelino Baptista said on Thursday they are not over-excited by being champions in waiting.
“We know of our status of being champions-elect, but will go out there and do what we have been doing all season long and that is to win the match. On the injuries front we have a clean bill.
Baptista said the team has done well this season and owes it to the players’ understanding and knowing what is and was expected from them.
Swallows coach, Jakobus Steyn said his team also exceeded expectations from their initial aim of finishing in either fourth or fifth position.
“It was a team effort to be where we are today. With only our first season in league football, I can with all certainty say that we have done well,” Steyn said, adding they will try and win the match to close off the season on a high.
Other Round 26 matches scheduled for Saturday at Khomasdal Stadium will see City Boys confront Kingston United at 08h00, followed by Golden Rivers locking horns with Namib Colts at 09h45.
In the penultimate match, Falcon Football Club (FC) will face second-spot chasing Gemengde-based outfit Afrika Rassap at 11h30, while the last match of the day will be between Rock Stones and Impala Chiefs at 13h45.
The matches will continue on Sunday at the same venue with Young Ones battling Namibia University of Science and Technology FC at 08h00, followed by Falcon versus Namib Colts at 09h45.
Java Java will face Golden Rivers at 11h30, followed by Kingston United against Namib Eagles at 13h45.
Afrika Rassap will then confront City Boys at 15h00, with the big one between Eleven Champions and Swallows FA at 17h45.
The winners of the league will play the winners of Erongo, Hardap, Omaheke and ||Kharas for a place in the Southern Stream First Division next season.
