REHOBOTH, 11 JUN – Khomas Namibian Police (NamPol) Football Club collected a maximum of six points in their sixth and seventh round Southern Stream First Division Coastal Stream matches played over the weekend in Windhoek.
The men in uniform played two Walvis Bay teams and thumped Western Spurs 5-0 on Saturday, before beating Northern Stars 1-0 on Sunday, avenging their first leg defeats to the coastal teams in the process and are now in the running for the league title.
Coach of Khomas NamPol, Gareth Fortune #Eichab said they wanted to win the league, but due to an inconsistent start to the campaign they shifted their focus and aim to try and cement their status in the league.
“We dominate matches, but we are missing a host of chances and this is causing the team to drop points. We will now prepare for our next away games in Swakopmund against Blue Boys and Flamingoes in Walvis Bay which are not easy games,” #Eichab said.
He added that they will work on rectifying their mistakes of previous games and see what happens.
In other matches in the Coastal Stream on Sunday, Spoilers annihilated Western Spurs 8-1 in Okahandja.
Meanwhile in the Inland Stream, Windhoek United could only manage a point in their quest to overtake Karasburg-based log leaders Young Brazilians in a top-of-the-table clash that ended in a 1-1 draw, while Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) failed to win against Try Again from Keetmanshoop in a 2-2 draw to move away from the relegation zone.
SKW face the threat of relegation to the Khomas Second Division, which could be realised if they fail to pick up points in their remaining three matches and will also have to rely on Rebels in fifth spot losing their remaining games to avoid the drop.
After the weekend matches, Spoilers lead the Coastal Stream log with 11 points, followed by Flamingoes from Walvis Bay second with 10 points, Khomas NamPol third with 10 points with an inferior goal difference to Flamingoes.
In fourth spot is Western Spurs with nine points, followed by Blue Boys in fifth with eight points and Northern Stars in sixth position with seven points.
