KEETMANSHOOP, 29 OCT – A 20-year-old man who allegedly murdered a 45-year-old man on 29 June this year, made his third appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The accused, Richard Swartz, appeared before Magistrate Melissa Mungunda, who postponed the case to 21 January 2019 to allow for further police investigations.
Swartz allegedly stabbed Moses Diba in the chest, causing his death at a bottle store in the Noordhoek residential area.
He allegedly grabbed a knife from Diba who was busy assaulting his (Swartz’s) ex-girlfriend, and stabbed him. Diba died on the spot.
Prosecutor Frederick van der Colf told the court investigations into the matter have not yet been finalised as the police still need to collect statements from several witnesses.
During his first court appearance, Swartz indicated that he would apply for Legal Aid and Quinton Haoseb was appointed to represent him.
The accused was denied bail because police investigations were at an early and sensitive stage.
Swartz remains in custody at the police holding cells in Keetmanshoop until his next court appearance.
