RUNDU, 17 APR – The Kavango East Region on Tuesday held its first stakeholder meeting in preparation for the nationwide clean-up campaign taking place on 25 May this year.
President Hage Geingob last week during the State of the Nation Address announced that the nationwide clean-up campaign, which was initially scheduled for 01 May, will now take place on 25 May.
“We called all stakeholders in the region to come and strategise and see how we go about preparing ourselves for that,” Kavango East Governor, Dr Samuel Mbambo told Nampa on the sidelines of the meeting.
Mbambo said every Thursday, the region is expected to report to the Secretary of Cabinet on how preparations for the clean-up campaign are faring and they have therefore decided to meet every Tuesday.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Rundu Town Council, Fransiska Thikerete informed the meeting about areas they have identified in the town of Rundu that would need cleaning.
These include areas around the Trade Fair Centre up to Andreas Kandjimi Primary School.
Other areas identified are the open spaces between the town centre, areas behind Metro, OK Foods, the Rundu Chiefs Sports Centre and certain spots in residential areas.
The Kehemu suburb, the Ndjambulu and Junero areas will also be cleaned.
Thikerete said the clean-up campaign would require six front-end loaders, eight tipper trucks, four normal trucks and equipment including 30 rakes and 30 spades.
“We also need about 100 boxes of disposable masks, 100 disposable gloves, 10 000 refuse bags and at least 1 000 people to help clean within the boundaries of the town,” she said.
