WINDHOEK, 31 JULY – Four police officers were arrested for domestic violence over the weekend, Namibian Police Force spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi confirmed on Monday.
Shikwambi in a statement said the four officers were part of 10 people arrested with regard to domestic violence between 27 and 29 July in cases ranging from rape, attempted murder, assault through threatening and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to common assault.
One police officer was arrested on Friday around 23h00 at a club in Koës in the //Kharas Region, after he allegedly assaulted his wife. Another officer was arrested Saturday night in the Hardap Region at the Mariental State Hospital nurses’ home for assaulting his girlfriend who is eight months pregnant.
A police inspector was arrested on Saturday around 07h30 at the Windhoek Roman Catholic Hospital after he allegedly threatened to kill his wife and expose her on social media.
Another woman and her daughter fell victim to a warrant officer when he allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill them. The officer was arrested at midnight on Saturday at Katutura’s Single Quarters.
Shikwambi urged members of the public to promptly report cases of gender-based violence to the police.
