TEHRAN, May 28 — Former Tehran mayor Mohammad Ali Najafi was detained on Tuesday for killing his wife, Mohammad Shahryari, the head of Tehran’s Criminal Court, told state-run IRNA news agency.
Mitra Ostad, the second wife of Najafi, was shot dead at her home in the northern district of the Iranian capital on Tuesday.
Shahryari said that family dispute was the cause of the murder. Najafi confessed to the murder of his wife, he added.
Najafi is an Iranian reformist politician who was the mayor of Tehran for eight months until April 2018.
He is currently serving as an advisor in the cabinet of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. – XINHUA
