REHOBOTH, 25 MAY – The 65-year-old farm foreman who allegedly accidentally shot a worker at Farm |Orab, made his first appearance in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The 36-year-old Paulus Kampasi was rushed to the hospital after the incident on Tuesday, but was declared dead upon arrival.
The Namibian Police Force’s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa the incident occurred around 17h00.
“It is alleged that a shot accidentally went off from a .22 rifle while the suspect was cleaning the rifle and it fatally struck one of the farm workers in the back,” he said.
The farm foreman, De Wet O’Callaghan was arrested and appeared before Magistrate Vincent Nzaca.
O’Callaghan was released on bail of N.dollars 6 000 and the matter was postponed to 11 July for him to obtain legal representation and for the police to conduct further investigations.
Public Prosecutor Loide Nixualufuya represented the State.
