Egypt deports German national for attempting to join IS group

CAIRO, JAN 14– The Egyptian authorities deported a German national of Egyptian origin who arrived in Egypt several days ago over his affiliation to Islamic State group, official MENA news agency reported on Monday.
Eissa Mohamed Abdel Ghani al-Sabagh, the German national, arrived at Luxor International Airport several days ago coming from Germany.
The 19-year-old man had maps of North Sinai, an Egyptian hotbed for IS militants, and it turned out that he had links with IS elements, MENA said.
During investigations, Al-Sabagh said he came to Egypt to join terrorists in North Sinai.
The man was deported on Sunday to Germany, according to MENA.
Al-Sabagh obtained the German nationality in 2007 without maintaining the Egyptian nationality.
On Friday, Egypt deported another German man of Egyptian origins who was investigated over suspected attempting to join an IS in Sinai.
The 23-year-old Egyptian-born Mahmoud Abdel Aziz was arrested at Cairo airport in December 27 for allegedly attempting to join IS militants in Egypt’s Sinai.
Egypt has been battling Islamist militants in North Sinai since the 2013 military ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in response to mass protests against his rule.
The attacks killed hundreds of security men and civilians in Egypt.
Egypt has launched an anti-terror campaign in February last year to crush militants across the country. The operations have killed more than 800 terrorists so far. – XINHUA
