Brave Warriors move up in FIFA rankings

WINDHOEK, 13 APR – Namibia is now ranked 26th on the continent and 107th in the world, according to the latest International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) rankings released on Thursday.
Namibia moved up four places in both the Africa and world rankings.
The senior men’s football team has played six games this year, winning three, drawing two and losing one.
They recently beat Lesotho 2-1 in Windhoek, but the match was not recognised by FIFA, hence no ranking points were on offer.
The Brave Warriors last played a competitive match in January, when they lost 2-0 to Morocco during the African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament held in that country.
They are scheduled to play Swaziland to celebrate the 50th birthday celebrations of King Mswati on 19 April.
Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti told Nampa on Thursday, the team is likely to continue improving their rankings as long as they stay active.
He also paid tribute to the activeness of the league.
“The standard of play at local games will help the national team,” he said.
The Warriors are further expected to play in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) tournament slated for South Africa in May and June this year.
They will then resume their Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a clash against Zambia at home in a match that was postponed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from February to later this year or early next year.
CAF postponed the matches to allow the five countries who qualified for the 2018 World Cup to prepare extensively.
