Rundu, Aug. 31 – Affirmative Repositioning movement chairperson for Kavango East region Gellasius Kandunda has accused the Divundu Village Council of ignoring residents who are asking for plots, and saying they will only consider people who have money to buy the plots.
Kandunda said that more than 100 people had applied for plots since 2013 but up to now, none of them has been given land or plot numbers.
“We are aware that the current council inherited some problems left by the former council but instead of them solving those problems, they decided to add to them,” said Kandunda.
He added that the Divundu Village Council had shown no interest in the plight of students, the rising unemployment rate, and residents who want to be allocated plots but their interest lay in investors who have money to buy the plots.
Kandunda said on 02 March of 2021, the village council issued a notice to purchase erf no. 89, situated in Divundu, a properly zoned residential area at a cost of N$40 per m2 with a purchased price of N$45 960.
“If you look at the amount demanded by the village council, you can clearly see that the amount is exorbitant and topping up a budget by the Swapo government to survey land that was supposed to accommodate almost 1 000 people.
The AR chairperson said the movement is giving a voice to everyone who applied for a plot more than two years ago but never got any feedback from the village council to get land as any Namibian citizen should get it not Chinese and European investors only.
“We will fix all the village towns and Rundu because corruption is not something we can ignore,” he said.
