Windhoek, Aug. 16 — A video of an unidentified man who is being abused by his girlfriend has gone viral on social media and has left many people in shock.
The video in which the woman is seen wielding a sharp object with which she attacks her boyfriend and breaks down his door proves that men also suffer abuse at the hands of their partners and sometimes do so silently.
“Men are afraid to retaliate in such situations because society will judge them, which leads to a lot of men committing suicide,” said Jerson Tobias a student in Windhoek.
Ben Schernick, a member of the steering committee for MenEngage Namibia said he had seen the video but did not know the full story behind the attack.
He however said on the other hand that the video carried a strong message that men are also abused by women and also go through pain.
“The victim must contact the authorities or social workers who will find ways to help her,” he said.
No comment could be obtained from the police.
